Boat Varnish Alternative

boat varnish alternative

Testers applied dozens of exterior wood finishes (22 one-part varnishes, six two-part varnishes, 18 synthetics and satins/varnish alternatives, and eight teak oils and sealers) to small panels of bare solid teak and set them out to face the rigors of south florida's weather. two years later, our search continues for the ideal wood finish-relatively easy to apply, easy to maintain, lasts. I haven't even finished the backbone of my next boat, but i'm already thinking of the finish for the interior and trim. the boat is a 13' glued lap open sailboat. the exterior will be painted, but i like to keep the interiors of my boats bright. of course, with all the nooks and crannies in a small boat, varnishing can be a pain. is there some other product or oil that can be applied easily. Varnish alternative- a tartan down the dock from us has used something called teakguard--it is a water based polymar i believe--once prep is done-- easy to apply and the teak has that fresh wood look, low gloss, nice grain showing..

boat varnish alternative Commonly referred to as marine wood finishes, these are an easier, faster alternative to applying varnish, and yield similar uv protection. they can be used on all types of wood, not just teak and mahogany, to bring out the unique tones in each.. Laminated cross-arms on an outrigger canoe, cypress laminations, both salt and fresh water exposure. i know next to nothing about this stuff, but varnish seems tb the conventional non-fiberglass covering. but these things are going to take a beating abrasion-wise and oil is calling out to me. is some sort of oil rubbed in to the wood a workable alternative to spar varnish?.
